Internet Explorer 9 at MIX10 Conference

At a convention coming up in March 2010 in Las Vegas, details about Internet Explorer 9 are to be released.

Changes to Internet Explorer

Some of the expected changes for IE9 include speedy graphics rendering for IE9. This will take advantage of a computer’s graphics hardware to better render online images, videos, animations and other graphics.

Another expected feature that should be detailed is support of new HTML/CSS code that creates rounded borders on text boxes. Also HTML 5 support will be discussed, and how much of it will be implemented.

Speed. The IE9 prototype is just as speedy as the other major browsers. By some standards, IE8 performs at least half as fast as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari. So if they can compete at the speed level with the other browsers, that would be impressive.

Windows 7 Integration

In addition to these changes, it will be interesting to hear how Microsoft will integrate Windows 7 with IE9. Most of the problems in Europe with the Internet Explorer series has been the integration of the browser into the operating system. European nations have forced Microsoft to remove that feature and let the browser stand on its own. This allows other browsers to work better with the OS.  With Windows 7 rich feature set, Microsoft may not need to integrate the IE9 browser. This would be a great relief to other browser makers, although with the recent rise of the popularity of other browsers, and the decline of IE, Microsoft may take this time to get back on footing and compete directly with the Mozilla’s and Chrome on a feature per feature setting.

Release Date

So far there has not been an official release date offered up by Microsoft. Normally there is a two year release cycle. But business concerns may force Microsoft to get the browser out faster than they would like.
